If you watch YouTube videos on your phone, chances are good you’ve seen “the shelf” – YouTube’s container for its newest content type – #Shorts. They’re less than a minute long, vertical or square orientation, and taking off like a rocket. Designed, I suppose, to compete with Instagram Reels and TikTok, #Shorts are an interesting conundrum. I explain what they are, how I created a couple of them, and the data I got, all in the video below… which is far longer than a #Short [but still under 11 minutes long].
