My 2019 RAM 1500 is the first vehicle to receive an Over The Air (OTA) software update for its infotainment screen. It was pretty cool to see that an automaker offers free updates, for a change. Sure, it didn’t update my maps, but it’s something! Let’s go through the update and how to check the version on your 12″ UConnect system.
First of all, the update was offered when I parked my truck at work Friday morning. A message popped up asking if I wanted to do the update or schedule it. I chose to do the update then, and it began. The update occurred while I was in my office, and didn’t appear to use my phone – looks like it used the truck’s built-in cellular modem.
To check your software version, Press and hold the leftmost and rightmost icons in the bottom icon tray on the 12″ screen until the “Dealer Mode” menu appears. Then go into the second menu item, which is “Radio Part Information” The latest version as of this post is “19.43.13” in the US – it may be different in other countries.
As for what’s changed, the description was vague and mentioned connectivity and usability issues being fixed. I didn’t notice anything right away except my radio station presets had been reset, but my bottom tray of favorite apps hadn’t.
