Halfway through the year, and GM is still holding a steady lead over crosstown rival Ford. Also, for the first time since March of this year, when they bested Ford in sales, Toyota is nipping at the Blue Oval’s heels again. Meanwhile, almost everyone else is holding steady in the sales race.
While most companies held steady, a few stuck out. On the positive end of things, Honda, Nissan and Toyota had good increases from June to July, while Ford, Jaguar/Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz lost some sales.
Sales were good, with a total of 1,048,779 vehicles sold in July, the 3rd highest month this year, behind March and May. Year-to-date, a little over 6.6-million vehicles have been sold. Given that sales traditionally slow down towards the end of the year, the US Automotive market should be able to sell between 10.5 and 11.5-million vehicles.
Hopefully the new models coming out over the next few months will boost sales going into the fall and winter months, with the new Chevy Cruze, Ford Fiesta, Mazda Mazda2, among others.
