Preview: 2011 Cadillac CTS-V SportWagon

A lot of people never thought we’d see the day when Cadillac announced production of a station wagon, let alone a 556-horsepower station wagon.  Well, it’s here, and it’s the CTS-V SportWagon.  TV Commercials have shown the CTS SportWagon, but Cadillac kept saying it would never make the performance-oriented V variant of it.  They lied.  Those of you with Hemi-powered Dodge Magnums who are looking to replace it, stand up.  Your car has arrived.  With the same supercharged V8 powertrain as the CTS-V and CTS-V Coupe, the SportWagon has plenty of get-up-and-go to go with its sleek design.

So, why would Cadillac even build such a car?  It’s sure to sell in low numbers, right?  Well, Audi, BMW and Mercedes all make potent wagons, except you can’t buy them in the US.  They’re popular in Europe, where the station wagon lives on.  Part of the impetus behind building the CTS-V SportWagon is to sell most of them overseas.  Someone at Cadillac’s headquarters must’ve said, “hey, we’re building this for the overseas market, why not build a few and keep them here?”  It’s a good plan, and I hope it works out for Cadillac.
